Oil based transportation can suck it...

Just gotta say.. The sad events going on in the gulf has created a new sales angle, and it really gets people thinking. There is one case of this that I wanted to document and share it as well.

The other day I was sitting outside of art institute and these two lovely older women came out. They stood on the curb waving big for a cab next to me and another pedicab. I asked the ladies where they were going and her responce was, "That's okay we want something comfy." I replied,"Well ma'am my interior is made out of a couch, so you will be comfortable." She smiled and acknowledged it was a comfortable seat. Her friend then says,"We're going to printer's row, but we just would rather grab a cab.. Maybe another day." Now my response was very quick witted and went like this, "Maybe another day BP will clean up the gulf." As i said this the ladies cab pulled up, but the point was made by the look in the ladies faces, and as she got in the cab she says with a guilty face, "You're right." I hope from the face she gave, that the next time she has the option that she takes the gas free way.

With this story i want to encourage people in Pensacola, Milton, Pace, and everywhere else to start being gas free as much as possible. Ride your bike, walk, or even use the pedicabs when at the civic center or downtown. Yes, there are pedicabs in Pensacola. Their company name is foot taxi. Back to the matter at hand. There are a lot of benifits to being being gas free. For example, the fact that I have gone from a size 42 to a 32 since i moved from Florida. Also you see more resturants, businesses, and parks that were there, but you were too busy killing our environment and being lazy. Is it worth your getting there "quicker" while the Earth's blood turns the Gulf of Mexico and our white sand beachs black? Don't Just wait for BP to clean it up so we can get back to our gross habit and reliance of oil! You can start today. Don't just think this is a good idea, but make it a good idea!

Stanley cup!!

I have never been the biggest fan of hockey, but when your home team is good enough to be one team away from having the cup, you can't help to be excited! This past weekend with the play offs really helped stimulate the Chicago pedicab economy and the west loop bars. The united center is a perfect place to be an example in how we win in the competion of effeciant transportation. The traffic was so backed up, that even in my tired state on sunday, i was passing cars. Most people wanted to go to the nearest bar, Westend or Crossroads. There were also people who took us to Olgolvie and Union station to catch the Metra trains. I personally on friday night got a mile and a half ride to this bar called English in river north.

Also, this past weekend was green fest at navy pier. With everyone ecofriendly minded it was easy to talk people in to a ride over to michigan ave or millineum park. Then, I cruised over to the first Mayfest of the year on Barry and Ashland just in time for it to let out and catch a racing fare over to Wellington and Halsted. Afterwards, I was on the grace of just riding around and catching random people walking through neighborhoods. I ended up calling it early do to the two pm Blackhawks game on sunday.

Sunday was ruff! Seeing that this past weekend was super busy, and the weather was stellar it left me sore, tired, and a bit hung over. Going and having two beers at 2am in the morning never works. None the less, i woke up and had a Gatorade with a five hour energy shot in it. I ended up getting there a bit late to work pregame, but still had a great time working Navy pier during the game. After the second period i went back over to United center to discover that the blackhawks came back from a 0 to 2 deficit to be up 3 to 2 and win the game 4 to 2. Sadly, I wasn't able to come out of my energy deficit and had to head home after two fares to the Metra station. I even had to turn down a dude, being like "i'll give you 20 bucks dude, just take us!", to instead get a salad at Earwax and limping home (pedaling really slow). Which leaves me here today laying on the the couch and resting up to start a home stand with the cubs vs dodgers tomorrow, and a huge weekend ahead of us with belmonth sheffield fest, cubs vs cards, memorial day weekend, and fireworks starting at navy pier. Can't wait! See ya on the roads of Chicago!

weather or not

Not a very active or special week, but i did get a taste of things to come. We had a nice tuesday cubs game with them winning against the rockies. Wednesday this week was a great day to soak up the sun and take a couple afternoon fares at navy pier. It is nice to be able to work over by navy pier again. Also, Conan ended up being in town last night and was even kind enough to come out to sign some autographs for fans waiting for a chance just see him post show.

Sadly, i wasnt able to make it down there tonight to get him to sign my pedicab, another time i guess. I instead started to replace the bearings on a company cab with the blume brothers. When i got done sitting in 2 1\2 hour traffic jam, I found out that the place i go for bearings just adjusted their inventory and were in need of restocking common bearing they were out of. The guy was kind enough to send me to another place that was a direct compeditor, but they closed as i walked up to the door and the guy was like "come back tomorrow". So needless to say, I had a nice drive today and am now having a nice evening of rest thanks to the weather.

The plus side is that this weekend's weather looks amazing! Chicago has it's first street fest of the year with mayfest, greenfest at navy pier, and a Hawk's games that if they win Friday and Sunday then they are in the stanley cup!! Can't wait to see what the weekend brings!

Please allow me to introduce myself

After 4 1/2 years of pedicabbing 3 of them in Denver and the rest currently based out of Chicago, I have decided to log some of it.. Funny situations, personal stories, things I see, or even horror stories will be shared with you, but for now lets learn a bit about Mr Love.

I am a good ole southern boy who decided that Chicago rocks, so I moved here back in 2001. Had a blast and then took a break. Moved to Denver and picked up this fun job, hobby, career, whatever you want to call it. I learned the ins and outs, and the dos and don'ts of the trade in the lodo district of Denver. In Denver, I got to work Broncos, Nuggets, Avalanche, and Rockies learning how to shuttle people through large crowds and crowd management. I got to also work major events like the D.N.C. and got to witness history. I also from the D.N.C. got the urge to travel and chase big events such as the inauguration and super bowl. While in Denver, I also picked up a job at main street pedicabs assembling pedicabs and learning more of the ins and outs and dos and don'ts of the actual running of a pedicab operation. Well after getting my learn on, I decided it was time to take my knowledge and love for the pedicab industry, and share it with my favorite city in the U.S.A, Chicago.

I will reference things i have learned and places I have traveled while living in Denver, but it is worth holding out for till it is time to share and compare is right. I am excited to be home in Chicago and hope to promote good business and give people great experiences. The industry has been around here in Chicago for 5 or 6 years, but it takes bit longer to expand people's minds and realize that us pedicabbers love our job and no you aren't too fat. Some tools I have set up to help spread the word is foursquare, twitter, and now this blog all listed under the alias Jimbob Love. As you read stories of people and situations that happen with us, you will hopefully find it entertaining and want to have an exprience of your own. Please share the love and spread to word, Promote a "green" revolution in Chicago.

I still travel as well and can be found traveling to Badger games in Madison, Notre Dame in South Bend, Colts in Indy, and a few other towns with sports teams and big events. As well as winter in Austin, TX. Which I have to say that Austin thus far has the best Pedicab service in the U.S., as in it is a regular, reliable service, and it is a community of friends that work together. Which is a great example to have when you have a frontier ahead of you. Hope you enjoy reading and I hope that I keep this update with entertaining thought and something you can enjoy.

The only time I will sign off with my real name,
Bobby
